Report allegations of fraud of Federal Government funds to SAI’s ReportFraud.

Who can use ReportFraud?

• Federal Government employees

• Suppliers of goods and services to Federal Government Organizations

• The public

What is fraud?

Fraud is defined as “the use of deception to unjustly obtain a benefit”. Examples of frauds that may be committed against the Federal Government include:

• Employee related fraud – (such as payroll fraud, theft or misuse of assets, improper use of position)

• Supplier/Vendor related fraud – (such as the payment of bribes to obtain contracts, false accounting, collusive tendering, inventory theft)

• Customer/Recipient related fraud – (such as avoidance of payments, improper claims for Federal Government benefits)

• Computer fraud – (such as hacking and information theft, or alteration of stored data)

What information should be provided?

Provide as much information as you can, and where possible include:

• The name of the Federal Government Organization that is involved and, if known, the type of funds or programs involved,

• The names and positions of the people involved,

• Where and when the alleged wrongdoing took place, and

• Whether the matter has previously been reported - if so, who it was reported to and when.

Remember that only matters to do with Federal Government Organizations may be reported on this web site.

What happens to the information that is submitted?

All information received will be safeguarded by the SAI and kept confidential.

Will all reports be investigated?

A report may not be investigated if it is:

• Mischievous

• Without substance

• A matter that has previously been investigated by another organization, unless the report concerns the actual conduct of that investigation

Will the outcome of investigations be advised?

The SAI cannot provide information regarding any action taken as a result of allegations made. Unless you are contacted directly by one of our investigators, there will be no communication from our office, other than an acknowledgement that your report has been received. We will not provide you with the “status” of action taken on the allegation.
